WINTERPARK - One Night Alone

With a history of playing in punk bands, making electronic music for independent films, and teaching kids to play rock music, Matt Ridgway delved into a new collaborative project in 2005. The result was WINTERPARK, a mix of retro-tinged indie-tronics and sonic ambience. Written over a blazing Melbourne summer, yet channeling the isolation of a European winter, this is the sound of contrasting extremes, set in a musical interzone somewhere between Synth Pop and Sigur Ros.

What began as a DIY project became a multi-layered album with the help of some of Matt's closest friends. Ross McLennan, ex-front man of Snout, contributed drums and melodica. Gavin, Susannah and Jules from the Hampdens contributed additional vocals and instruments and Lucy McCrae, a creative designer, put her own unique vocal stamp on a number of tracks.

Perth singer, Jordy Hewitt and Karl Lewis, drummer from the Hampdens, also contributed to the recording, and this, in turn led to the creation of the Winterpark live band.

In the last twelve months the band has been doing a number of profile-building shows in and around Melbourne (Ding-Dong, 161, Brown Alley, St. Jeromes, Evelyn and Rob Roy) as well as a well-received Sydney tour. The live show incorporates a strong visual element and the band has played a number of showcase shows with their own synced visual projections at Horse Bazaar and Glitch Bar/Cinema.
