tru thoughts
This is the first in a brand new series of music on Tru Thoughts compiled by Robert Luis to highlight a number of new artists from across the world who have been sending their music to the label. This series continues the label’s commitment to finding and developing new acts. The first three 'When Shapes Join Together" compilations on Tru Thoughts have seen a number of the musicians subsequently sign to other well respected labels for album deals: Bonobo (Ninja Tune), Chris Clark (Warp), The Capoeira Twins (Timo Maas's Hope label), Treva Whateva (Ninja Tune) and Jon Kennedy (Grand Central). So look out for a number of names that you may be hearing a lot more of in the future. The album is split over two CD's, the Vertical CD being a more uptempo and club orientated mix and the Horizontal CD covering a more laidback selection. The music covers a huge variety of styles including broken beat, funk, jazz, hip hop, downtempo, bossa and breaks that fit well together across the album. It continues the style and sound developed by Tru Thoughts and the idea that "good music is good music, no matter what the genre" and finds well respected and well-known artists such as Quantic and Mr Scruff alongside the likes of Native Cell and Diesler, whose musical debut releases are found on this album. The album also features a number of exclusive tracks from Tru Thoughts artists TM Juke, Nostalgia 77, Mawglee, Flevans and Natural-Self and features music recorded and influenced by sounds from around the globe.
