VARIOUS ARTISTS - Longrain Music 2

Longrain, award winning restaurant and bar, and Instinctive Travels, are proud to offer a second helping of consummate cocktail beats and tasty audio treats with the release of their second CD, Longrain Music 2.

After the success of last year's Longrain Music, which was this country's first proper restaurant/bar compilation CD, a second volume was a natural progression.

Longrain Music 2's compiler and long-standing resident DJ, Clive Smith says, “With so many “chill-out” compiles doing the rounds we try to be a little different with the Longrain series. Besides some excellent and hard to find vinyl-only mixes on tracks by some of the leading lights of the European nu-jazz spectrum, we sourced some extra special and exclusive tracks from local acts”.

Crucial-D, (Dave Carnovale, Wicked Beat Sound System co-founder and now Longrain Thursday resident) lends his impeccable nu-latin smarts to the Voodoo Bossa Mix of Sweat It Out, composed especially for Longrain Music 2. Rephrase, (Jamie Olsen) Sydney sax virtuoso and beat producer, gives us Way of Life. TAG (Mark Scully) gets all Thievery on us with Mo' Congeras. Deepchild (Rick Bull) digs deep into his soul and offers a beautiful minor anthem for the modern world – What's Going Wrong. Coda takes us on a pilgrimage to a Holy City. And Melbourne's answer to Gilles Peterson, the inimitable Ennio Styles, delivers a punchy re-rub of Cubano Chant, originally recorded by Czech act SHQ in 1965.

To round out the album, Scott Saunders, (ex DIG keysman) with cohorts Mako and Michael Di Francesco, now collectively known as D's on the 2, lend an understated “live-at-the-lounge” intimacy with their tinkling down-tempo smoker, Easy.

French act, Zimpala, bring The Breeze is Black, remixed here by Norway's Bobby Hughes Combination. Italian lounger, Paine, gives us a frisky opener in Casa Nuova. Denmark's Butti 49 offer the superb Alan Accelerates, previously only available on vinyl. Mo' Horizons provide Gonna Be, the first single from their eagerly awaited new album. Flunk's version of New Order's Blue Monday is as about as good as a cover gets. Zenzile, again from France, provides a dubby downshift on Sampling DNA, and German deep-dub sensation, EMO, croons like there's no tomorrow on the hauntingly beautiful The Real Thing.

Sam Christie, Longrain co-owner and music lover, has handpicked a roster of DJs who appear nightly in the Longrain bar. Del Larkin, Ben Attuell, Sinclair, Steve Anderton, James Fletcher, Hi-Clive and Crucial-D are all practised tune-smiths who spin quality music that you might not often hear on the radio, but is an essential element of the atmosphere that makes a great night out at Longrain.

“We like it eclectic, laid-back, funky, loungy”, says Christie. “It's attention to detail that counts, that's why we employ DJs to keep our music fresh”.

With good food and drinks, fresh is always best, and it's no different with Longrain music. Longrain Music 2 is compiled from only the freshest local and imported ingredients. And like Longrain's award winning menu and cocktail list, will take you to places beyond your imagination.

As they say, Your Health. Press play. Longrain Music 2. Tuck in. Enjoy
