VARIOUS ARTISTS - Permanent Vacation

There is always a story about passion for music behind a label's start off. Permanent Vacation's story is this: After being the product manager and co-A&R at Compost Records for three years, Tom Bioly decided to move on and track down his own label. As Benjamin Fröhlich's Play Record store is his regular shopping venue, there was always plenty of time for music talk and play that music out together in various clubs, parties and bars (right now Tom and Benjamin have launched their regular club night: Permanent Vacation). When Benjamin compiled "Isargold" (Compost 201), a compilation featuring music from Munich, for Compost under Tom's supervision, they noticed that they both have a passion for the same tracks, genres and artists. Thus it was the obvious next step to launch the label Permanent Vacation together. So here we are!

Permanent Vacation's first CD release, the compilation "Permanent Vacation" - the perfect soundtrack for your next holiday in space", gives a good impression on the musical direction of Tom's and Benjamin's new label. The musical concept behind all compiled tracks is to create a sort of chill-out / mid-tempo mix that has nothing to do with those innumerous bar / lounge / Ibiza compilations. The only quality mix CDs which have been released in the past years were strictly up-tempo or crazy mash-up material such as 2 Many DJs, The Glimmers or some of the DJ Kicks compilation. So the aim was to select quality music and also to create a good flow for some deep listening sessions.

The CD covers tracks, which could be called cosmic disco / space disco, balearic (DJ Harvey style), or simply quality laid back dance tunes. There are tracks back from the end of the 70s and beginning of the 80s such as Tommie Seebach, Antena, Alexander Robotnick and Double.

Antena's "Bye Bye Papaye" is a true cosmic classic, played many times back then by Daniele Baldelli, DJ Loda and Mozart (the true Cosmic DJs from Italy. Just to explain shortly: "cosmic music" is describing a mix of different musical genres such as disco, early electro, afro, proto house, krautrock etc. played all together on one evening in a big mix; this kind of music was very popular in the late 70s/early 80s in the Alps region.)

"Bobble Sex" by Scandinavian Tommie Seebach is like a blueprint for today's space disco sound from Norway, mainly forced by artists such as Hans-Peter Lindström (who also is featured on this CD, under his alias Six Cups Of Rebel), Prins Thomas and Todd Terje. "Woman Of The World" by Double is another cosmic classic and one of the most beautiful and deep disco tracks. The instrumental version (which still contains some vocal parts, essential!) is highly sought after. The original 12" reaches top prices at ebay, and illegal bootlegs are in popular demand. Here is the official re-release . Alexander Robotnick's "La Folie" is obscure and catchy, a track taken from the recently released album "Krypta 1982 (Rare Robotnicks)". Alexander Robotnick, alias Maurizio Dami, is an Italian music producer who had big impact on some leaders of the techno and house scene of the past 15 years. His style is classy italo-disco combined with electronic elements.

The Permanent Vacation Mix-CD also contains two brand-new exclusive tracks. One by Ilya Santana from the Canary Islands. He had one of the most impressive nu-disco (Metro Area style) releases in 2005 on Daniel Wang¹s Balihu imprint. The second track is by Parker Lewis, a newcomer and Perm-Vac buddy from Munich.

All other tracks have mostly been released on vinyl only in the past two years and are for the first time available on CD.

There are two amazing Maurice Fulton remixes, a space infected masterpiece rework by French man Joakim of the classic Max Berlin song "Elle Et Moi", balearic downtempo by Manhead (he just released his second album under his alias Headman on Gomma) and the moody sea-pirate ballad from Denmark's shooting stars WhoMadeWho.

Then you'll have a track taken of Kelley Polar's just released and highly praised album on Environ, and a wonderful house tune by AN-2 out of St Petersbourg, Russia.

And that's it. Now take some time and enjoy your permanent vacation.
