VARIOUS - Northern Soul Essential Floorfillers (3CD)

Presenting an incredible collection of feel-good up tempo anthems that are the true sound of Northern Soul. Essential Floorfillers is just that - an album heaving with tracks that bombard dancefloors across the country.

For many devotees, Northern Soul is a religion. The “keep the faith” exhortations, the clubs which double as cathedrals of ritual and worship, the rites of passage, the collecting of revered relics – the icon rare singles, flyers from long gone events, much thumbed fanzines treated as biblical sources of information, and obscure record label listings – all complete the analogy.

But if Northern Soul is a church it is a very broad one – as this collection of 45 classic Soul 45’s shows the strange world of Northern Soul embraces diverse styles of music from different eras.

CD3: Moving on Up

This disc contains some of the best of the 70s shufflers that took on the 60s stompers, including the immortal 45 that kicked off the new movement, The Carstairs “It Really Hurts Me Girl” which was first heard on a Miami radio station by Blackpool Mecca DJ (and later record producer) Ian Levine. Just when Ian had despaired off getting a copy from any of his many American contacts he found a copy nearer home at John Anderson’s influential Soul Bowl in Kings Lynn!
