When Jesse and Dizzy in The Similou discovered the keytar their lives changed forever. Nothing felt logical anymore. The only thing they could focus on was to create, create, create. Ever so skillfull music that would make themselves as well as all the blinking, checked pattern dance floors all over the world to dance. A plan that the first single ”All this Love” is already putting into gear. With a perfect chorus, danceable groove and an ass-kicking energy the song have already become one of the most featured tracks on Scandinavian radiostations. Nothing of this would ever have happened though if it wasn’t for a mystical bartender who comes from the more rough parts of harbourtown Gothenburg which is also the home town of The Similou.
The old Similou was more careful and less punk. But it happened that we started to eat lunch at the local pub where we sometimes also had a pint. Working as a bartender at this place is a guy that we now call “the Mastermind”. With a mix of skilled questions and sly flattery he fooled us both indirectly into starting up the new and more improved Similou. Now with a The! “Mastermind” have inspired us enormously mostly because his way of thinking is so different from anybody elses. Speaking to him makes us happy since it makes us understand that there is still so much to learn, Dizzy explains.
Jesse continues: - To start singing was to start exploreing unknown territory and it was the curiosity of what we could achieve if we did that made it so very exiting to make music again. All of a sudden being in the studio making music was just as tickling as ordering a pint from “ the Mastermind” at the pub.
The two perfectionists behind The Similou are two totaly different characters. It is probably this strange fusion that make The Similou sound so diverse. Everything from the jazzy, cocktail like titletrackt “So hot right now” to the Ghostbuster influenced club boogie “Ladykillers” and Jesse´s cocky rap in ”Play with us” with Dizzys Hall & Oates influenced chorus on top. With one ear to Earth Wind & Fires high pitch choirs and the other to Van Halen's magical reverb filled bassdrum The Similou creates a strange mix of beatronica, discopop, synthpunk and queermetal – all within Jesse and Dizzy’s unconditional and boundless love for the music.
Dizzy and me are quite different, have different musical references, so of course this is reflected in our songs. Dizzy is more musical and a skilled producer. I am more of a restless idea maker, I like the energy and weird sounds and ideas. I think this can be heard in our music.
And we can hear it! There under the clear blue sky of Gothenburg, covered with turquoise clouds and lightgreen parrots. The sounds that will make every pop kid, electro lover and club head dance like it was 1985. Get ready for the invasion of the hottest duo right now, The Similou.
