LLORCA - My Playlist

Llorca is today our second guest of the "My Playlist” series (also available : “My Playlist by Dj Cam”). He delivers here a very personal selection drawn from his ideal playlist, the one he likes to share with his friends and that frequently returns inside LLORCA’s DJ sets, the titles who generally remains from a long time on his turntable. "My Playlist" collection continues with an always personal, eclectic and clashy selection.

DJ Llorca has played in many festivals, such as LesTransmusicales and has proved himself as a Dj in some of the world’s hippest locations like Ibiza, Berlin, Montreal and Tokyo. With his music fulfilled with funky and soulful grooves, Llorca has immediately encountered success in 2001 with his first album ‘New Comer’ selling over 200 000 records worldwide !!!. The release was followed by a live tour, bringing electronic music to a new dimension. They even supported Jamiroquai’s Australian tour in 2002. After 3 years of Dj performances worldwide and several EPs, Llorca will finally release his second album beginning of 2006 and let us tell you it will be more soulful than ever!

“This is my first compilation - and I have to admit it was not an easy job ! The funny thing is that I found it as difficult to choose the tracks for this record, as it is when you have to pick up a limited selection of records and go abroad to Dj. Still, some people have been expected from me something else than a compilation - and maybe some would have expected something else after listening to this cd. For four years, I’ve been asked this same question : "When is your next album gonna be ready ?". People who know my first Lp ("Newcomer", F-communications, 2001) might wonder what I’ve been doing for so long. The answer is in your hands : besides producing remixes, tracks for a new album, and doing live acts, I’ve been dj'ing, going from clubs to clubs with a flight-case full of vinyl first, then with a cd-case - now with a laptop computer and two controllers (you don't stop technology). And, sometimes, these people who heard me spanning were disappointed or, at least, surprised by the music I was spinning : "why don't you play the same kind of music I heard on your album ?", or better: "This is much harder than your album, don't you ever play jazz, bossa, lounge music ?". The answer is, again, in your hands : I’m into music, into many genres of music, but when it comes to parties and dancing, what I like to hear is funk, house and techno... So, this is the music I like to play when I want to make people dance and have fun with me. I hope this compilation will help you getting my point of view, and clearing a misunderstanding - if there was some”.

LLORCA’s BIOGRAPHY

If somebody had to define Llorca's music, one might say he composes a mix of acoustic and electronic music inspired by afro-american music heritage - from blues to jazz, and from soul to techno. Born on 1974 in the north of france, Ludovic was immersed in the disco and funk hits by his mum, a club addict and music lover. As for his father, he belongs to the first breed of professional-computers coders : he offered his son one of the first family computer when ludovic was only 11.With a nerd as a father and a black-music lover as a mother, ludovic naturally became ... a computer-music composer! He really started signing his first tracks on a commodore 64, at the age of 14, composing sound tracks for videogames : his heros, jens-chris huus, maniacs of noise and rob hubbard, are in fact the pioneers of video games' music.

In 1991, he meets David Duriez (with whom he'll found much later a record-label called "Brique Rouge") : ludovic will show him how to get a sound out of a computer and david will teach monsieur Llorca the dj'ing basics. Three years later, they start releasing their first vynils under various aliases, on a small techno-music label based in the north of france. Llorca starts a dj career that leads him in many clubs and parties around the world, and he still spins today in many different countries this inimitable mix of house, funk and deep-techno.

In 1997, Ludovic sends a demo-tape to F-communications, and releases three ep's on this label before the "Newcomer" album. With its two singles and videos ("My Precious Thing" and "Indigo Blues"), Llorca's first album testified you just need good ideas to release a record - the whole lp was recorded, composed, and mixed with one pc and a cheap soundcard at home.

After 2 years of travelling in buses, planes and boats with funny jazz musiciens, Llorca gave up performing live - but will for sure go back on stage as soon as he feels ready for it. After a deserved rest, he focused on various projects and remixes for friends (his rework of Alexkid's "Come With Me" was one of the most played house-music record in europe in 2003) and then on the production of his second album, expected winter 2005/2006 on F-communications label.
