Moving On is the first artist album to be released on DNM-Dealers of Nordic Music. The same label that has released critically acclaimed compilation series Nordic Lounge och Jazzflora which features Scandinavian lounge and nu-jazz. With this, Hird’s debut album, he shows us why he is one of the most talented and respected artists from this music scene. Hird is 22 year old Christoffer Berg, one of the key producers in the music collective called Gonkyburg. A group of friends and musicians including Swell Session, Plej, Quant och Ernesto that have caused quite a stir in the electronic music community within the last few years.

”We were a couple of friends who enjoyed playing together. Within our small community we could bounce musical ideas and try things out in a safe environment, which helped us create our own style.”

The musical style of Hird have been described as a hybrid of jazz and clubmusic with pop elements. A successful formula which have resulted in his fast establishment as one of the hottest new-comers in the nu-jazz community. With his two previous EP’s, ”Keep you Hird” och ”I Love you my hope” , dj’s such as Gilles Peterson (BBC/Channel One), Michael Rütten (Compost) and Rainer Trüby embraced him early on. His very first release ever “Keep you Hird” did also enter the German DCC chart on 4th place when it came out early 2004.

Moving On is an album with strong influences from both jazz and club music. Two fields which Hird handles well since he have a background as a jazz drummer and nowadays also keeps himslef busy touring as a deejay around the globe. Although influences are strong from jazz and clubmusic most of the tracks on the album have a distinctive pop feeling where the melancholic melodies are in the centre of the compositions. Hird who play most of the instruments on the album himself explains his view on the album:

“What I personally like about the album is that it´s not primarily a club music album. Sure, I have had some of my strongest experiences of music on the dancefloor and this feeling I try to put into my songs. But, that spiritual experience don’t necessarily have to be communicated through the dancefloor alone, it should work just as well when listening to it at home.”

Many of the tracks features Yukimi Nagano who is also known as the vocalist of KOOP. On Hirds music she adds an extra dimension to the songs with her soft voice. A successful collaboration which felt completely natural for the both of them. Well, she can’t participate in anything without stealing the show (laugh). Also, I have never needed to try another singer, we have made music together for so long and she knows instinctively what I mean.”
