OCCUPATION is a song that looks at identity, and more specifically
identity that results from your chosen career path. A tune that expresses
that familiar feeling you can get when you realise all the effort you are
putting into your dreams may be in vain as there are thousands of people all
struggling to do the same thing. And yet, despite that, the song is hopeful
and defiant.
The song is written from a personal level the band moved across the
country in pursuit of their dream. The song muses on their hopes and dreams
will they be realised?
Occupation is both an intensely personal song and yet is a picture of the
emotions that all of us face throughout our lives.
DREAMS & REVELATION AT NINE is a song that began one evening sitting
at a piano and trying to capture a mood. Kealley says, "the music resulted
from one of those rare moments when inspiration just comes effortlessly".
The lyrics focus on the illusion of time being cyclical a clock, a circle
endlessly repeating. How for each of us time can actually appear to be a straight
line we move forward and never back until the end.
The inspiration for the lyrics came from a recurring childhood nightmare.
Miller says, "I was about nine and in the nightmare I was on the bottom
face of a clock and one single enormous white clock hand would constantly
spin round. I'd push myself back into the face of the clock and the blade
(hand) would miss me and pass by my nose. When I got tired I would be too
far forward and it would clip me and carry me full circle and I would be older."
TURN YOUR FACE TOWARDS THE SKY had its first incarnation as a track written for a student film. The film was inspired by the sudden death of a childhood friend of the director's sister. The song came about while searching for ideas that would capture the mood at the end of the film sad yet uplifting - dealing with a difficult time without being overwhelmed.
