FAMILJEN - Huvudet I Sanden ( Head in the Sand )

Dropping his explosively good album, Det Snurrar I Min Skalle (trans: It’s Spinning In My Head) earlier in the year, solo electronic genius, Johan T Karlsson has gained himself an abundance of fans far from his Swedish home.  Once his musical contemporaries got hold of his devilishly clever kitsune-style electro-pop, the world’s coolest underground producers and DJ’s crowded around, desperate to come onboard the Familjen train and remix and mash-up their favourite track on the album, Huvudet I Sanden (trans: Head In The Sand). The track Det Snurrar I Min Skalle spent 8 weeks on the rails of the Triple J Hitlist, radioplay on 2ser, Kiss FM, PBS (AOTW), RRR, RTR, 4zzz, FBI (AOTW) Edge Radio, SYN, SBS Alchemy, ABC Radio National, as well as receiving an abundance of press, claiming that Familjen was a breath of fresh air in an otherwise lacklustre market.

Huvudet I Sanden is not your conventional remix album, as Johan welcomes the talents of the moody, disco-oriented Kasper Bjorke (Copenhagen based Producer and DJ) who has recently worked with the likes of the Ting Tings.  The album also features the vocals of esteemed Swedish hiphop artist, Adam Tensta, accompanied by a veritable ton of Scandinavian underground electronic DJ’s and producers, representing the tip of a snow-decked iceberg. 

This year's new star in the Scandinavian indie-dance constellation, Familjen produces music which draws references to the likes of Stone Roses, Happy Mondays and Underworld mixed together with 90s dance and future orientated electronic pop.  The result is acid-house meets indie-rock with lyrics delivered in Karlsson's unique skånsk dialect.  Enjoy the ride.
