Chaos Maths formed in 2001. “Down Like That” is
their second full-length release. They have played countless live shows with
artists such as Sleeping Monk, Katalyst, 1200 Techniques, Muph & Plutonic,
Astronomy Class, The Tongue, sonicanimation, TZU, Bliss n Eso, Urthboy, Ozi
Batla, Celcius, Upshot, Morganics, 2-Up, Delta and on and on and
on… They continue to work hard. The result of this hard work is well
and truly displayed
through their new release!
Every track on this platter represents a different dimension of Chaos Maths. Whether they’re rockin’ the party with ‘Country Fresh’, ‘Go… Break’ or ‘Warning Sign’ or maybe kickin’ knowledge like on ‘Exorcise Tape’ or ‘Streets Need Gasoline’ their style is conscious and it’s got heart! Matter of fact, it’s got a whole lotta heart! Every song on here is clear, sincere and the flavour in yo ear!
As for who is responsible for this groove, DJ Jodes did the cuts, Dave and Bang dropped the lyrics and all collaborated on the beats. Jimmy lent a hand on a few scratches and Sleeping Monk laced ‘My Business’ with some straight vocab from the notepad.
Chaos Maths have little regard for the government and its laws and they also like to have fun and further the artistic cause of Hip Hop music. They hope this attitude is reflected in their songs. They are also uncomfortable with the hyperbole that seems to comprise most press releases. In describing their music Chaos Maths strongly suggest using the words ‘Fresh’, ‘Fly’, ‘Wild’ and ‘Bold’ but not in an ironic way. You should mean it.
Here’s what some people had to say about their previous album - “Dope Meaning Good”.
“Chaos Maths, MC’s Dave and Bang – and
DJ Jodes have released an album that, on the strength of its ideas, is
up there with the best of them… the results are as good as any Australian
hip-hop.”
(J Mag)
“Chaos Maths' sheer enthusiasm for the music is
clear, their self-produced album an example of what young groups can put
together with a fierce DIY attitude.”
(Metro, Sydney Morning Herald)
“Even if you can't get your head around Aussie hip hop, you will be converted when you do your maths homework!” (Hot 4's)
