”Perhaps I am on the verge of gushing here, I think it’s one of the best albums I’ve heard in years. Yes, I can’t believe I’ve said that either." - MUSICALUBIQUITY
“Not everybody will get [it], but if you do, you’ll love it. It’s one of the most accomplished and sincere records of the year; forceful, beautiful and epic.” – Glasswerk.co.uk
TANOU, as they are affectionately called, are an upcoming unique, British (Northampton, England) seven piece whose lyrical mastery and indie sensibility takes you on a grandiose voyage of smart lyrics and anthemic euphoric pop sounds.
The band complete most of their recordings in a studio in Umea, in the North of Sweden with good friend and practically eighth member, Magnus Lindberg (who also plays in the band Cult Of Luna.) Heavily influenced by the likes of Elliot Smith, Ben Folds, Jenny Lewis and James Mercer, TANOU have the sensibility of Sufjan Stevens, with the vocal potency of Ryan Adams. Key tracks Me Me Me [track 3], Firetruck (doki doki) [track 2] and 45 forever [track 5] are arguably offering the real essence of this sonically exhilarating ride; they’re restrained and delicately sweet pop songs that escalate into shouting, drum-bashing rock anthems for indie kids sick of indie music.
After many years filled with sporadic single and EP releases, making things out of pieces of string, creating hand-made CD covers and hanging out with their Swedish contemporaries, TANOU have made a few changes. For starters, the band has settled on its current line-up - Paul Macefield, Phil Spry, Kate Williams, Chris Jones, Jaime C. Macefield, Gary Fleming and Nic Willes. The seven Adventurers combine eloquently to make musical and poetic harmony through the medium of song. As one member once stated, “No matter how simple or complex, songs are maps to places that people can’t physically go, escape plans to take us away from the towns and cities that suffocate us.” And they do just that.
THE ALL NEW ADVENTURES OF US - Best Loved Goodnight Tales is available through One Little Indian and distributed by Creative Vibes
